There is nothing quite like walking into a room and finding that you have a pest problem. It does not matter whether the pests are insects or rodents, a pest problem can take away your peace of mind. There are a number of actions that you can take that will help you get rid of the pest problem. There are also a few different supplies that you can have on hand that can help. Here are a few of the most important supplies that you can have on hand to take care of those pests.

Diatomaceous Earth

One of the best things that you can have on hand is diatomaceous earth. This substance is a tiny silicone shell from algae. These little tiny shells have extremely sharp edges that cut through the exoskeleton of an insect. If the exoskeleton and lipid layer is cut through on these bugs, and the insect will get dehydrated and die. Diatomaceous earth is a very good pest control substance, but it also is extremely safe to use around humans and pets. To use, spread the powder around the perimeter of your house. This is a very good way to keep insects at bay.

Pesticide and Pump

There are many different pesticides that you can buy at the store, and it is important that you have these on hand, but it is also very important that you have a way to actually deliver the pesticide. There are plastic pump bottles that will hold anywhere from one to five gallons of water. These hand held pump bottles make fantastic pesticide distributers. The bottles are thick and will not leak, but the pump is strong enough to allow for a steady stream of pesticide for just a few pumps.

Traps

Not many pests are as troublesome as mice or rats, and it is important that you get rid of them as quickly as possible. One of the most effective ways to kill rodents is to trap them. Keep a supply of rodent traps on hand, just in case the little beasts try to invade your home. This will often happen during the winter when the rodents try to get in from the cold. To trap these mice you will want to place the trap along the floorboard of your home with the bait toward the inside of the room. This will force the mouse or rat to trip the trap to get to the bait.
